Suzuki Jimny Day in Kosai City

“Suzuki Jimny Day in Kosai City” was held in Japan this March! This was in fact, the very first official Jimny event hosted by Suzuki in Japan. The Kosai plant is where the Jimny 3-door is manufactured, making it the true hometown of the Jimny. Fans enjoyed an amazing day featuring off-road driving exhibitions, various Jimny displays, workshops, and talk sessions with Jimny’s chief engineer and designers. With so many owners in attendance, it was also a fantastic opportunity for the community to connect and admire each other’s Jimny!

A huge thank you to everyone who took part in naming our Kinetic Yellow Jimny XL.

When we asked the Jimny community to help name our newest Jimny, you delivered an incredible range of creative, clever and downright memorable suggestions. After narrowing the entries down to our finalists, we handed the decision back to the people who know Jimnys best—you.

After an enthusiastic community vote, we’re excited to announce that the winning name is:

Sunny Jim

Congratulations to John Gardner, whose winning entry captured the spirit of our bright yellow Jimny perfectly.

To celebrate, we’ve officially welcomed Sunny Jim to the Jimniacs family with a custom Sunny Jim sticker package, and the vehicle is now proudly wearing its new name.

Thank you again to everyone who entered and voted. The response was fantastic, and it’s another great example of what makes the Jimny community so special.

Keep an eye out for Sunny Jim as he’ll be exploring local tracks, turning up at events, and representing the Jimniac spirit wherever the road leads!

Rear Light Assesmbly

Specification Spotlight … Ever wondered why the tail lights, brake light and indicator assemblies are incorporated into the rear bumper on a Jimny? The answer is one of accessibility.

If the rear lights and indicators were located on the sides of a compact car, this would require having a much narrower rear swing door. Locating the lights on the bumper, beneath the door, means the rear door can be extremely wide in terms of its relationship to the vehicle’s overall width thereby making it possible to load larger items more easily. Pretty and clever.

Sporting the fabulous registration plates: MISS ZOOK in hot pink, Brooke Bates was proud to show off her first brand new car.  A self-confessed lover of performance cars, Brooke describes her Jimny as “a breath of fresh air”.

The super cool registration plates were a Christmas present from her partner. Brooke was able to secure her Jimny in the perfect mix of colour, model and transmission.

So, when she’s not cruising the roads in a high-powered performance car, you’ll probably find Brooke and her family heading to fantastic locations to take more outstanding photos like this one at right.

Evie is a 30-year-old Graphic Designer who grew up on Bribie Island and now calls the Gold Coast home. She loves nothing more than loading up her Jimny with her little Kelpie, Indie, and disappearing into the beach or bush. Having camped since she was tiny, the Jimny has given her the kind of freedom she has always craved. Along the way, she illustrates her adventures and turns them into stickers, with one of her Moreton Island illustrations even being turned into a shirt print by TradeMutt.

When it comes to her Jimny, Evie simply calls her “Jimny.” She did, however, create a sticker for the back window that reads “Evie, Indie and Jimny.” Her partner is still a little salty about not making it into the illustration, but that’s a story for another day.

One of Evie’s most memorable Jimny adventures was a trip to Binghi Station near Stanthorpe. She had booked a stunning Hipcamp site with its own private gorge, located deep in remote country and well beyond mobile reception. What she hadn’t anticipated were the challenging access tracks—steep downhill rock descents carved out by larger four-wheel drives. The Jimny had to forge her own path. It was the most technically demanding driving Evie had ever undertaken. Without reception, there was no opportunity to call her dad for advice, so she had to trust her instincts and back herself. There were more than a few tears along the way, but the reward was an incredibly scenic and isolated destination unlike anywhere she had experienced before. It remains a trip she will never forget.

While no single Jimny build stands out as the ultimate dream rig, Evie is always slowing down to check out other Jimnys she spots on the road. She loves seeing how people have customised them and is constantly finding inspiration for her own setup. Whether it’s a clever dog window arrangement or another practical touring modification, she’s quick to save ideas to her ever-growing Mega Jimny wishlist.

At the top of Evie’s travel bucket list is a road trip to the Red Dog statue in Dampier, Western Australia. It has long been a dream to take Indie there. Having previously travelled the Pilbara Wanderer tracks, she knows how special the region is, but sharing the experience with Indie would make it even more meaningful. Closer to home, she and Indie are heading to Uluru for a nine-day adventure in July. Given more annual leave, she would have loved to drive the entire distance from the Gold Coast. One day, she plans to complete the full journey in the Jimny.

When it comes to off-road recommendations, K’gari (Fraser Island) sits firmly at the top of Evie’s list. There is nowhere quite like it. The sandy tracks are a perfect playground for a Jimny, and with iconic destinations such as Lake McKenzie, the Maheno Wreck, Eli Creek and the Champagne Pools, there is no shortage of places to explore. Dingoes are a common sight across the island, adding to the experience. Evie recommends carrying the appropriate recovery gear and knowing how to use it. While the Jimny is capable of handling most situations, preparation goes a long way in ensuring every adventure remains enjoyable.
