Hey, I’m Josh from JB74 QLD! The JB74 QLD group started in early 2021 after a bunch of strangers met up to explore the 4WD tracks around the glasshouse mountains. We’ve grown through organising meet ups in our local communities, 4wd parks, national parks and beaches. We love building awesome friendships and communities with Zook lovers and having rad adventures!
What model and year Jimny do you own?
I own a 2020 Suzuki Jimny JB74, 3dr manual!
Favourite Jimny feature?
It’s totally not even 4×4 related – Apple CarPlay! I can’t live without good tunes.
Do you have a nickname for your Jimny?
I don’t! – I’ve never been able to pick “the perfect one”, so it hasn’t happened.
What’s been your most memorable experience with your Jimny?
It would have to be taking my family to K’Gari (Fraser Island) for a holiday, we booked a cabin and got to explore the awesome sights at the island for a week!
Why is a Jimny perfect for Queenslanders?
Owning a Jimny allows you not only to explore in the wild, but also to express your own personality through accessories and really make it your own. I’ve never met two Jimny’s that are the exact same!
Manual or auto transmission?
It’s manual for me! I love to feel the car and be in control.
Original 3 door or 5 door (XL) fan?
I think I’m always going to be on “team 3 door” – BUT, I must say that now they’re in the wild, the 5 door is growing on me.
Who rides shotgun in your Jimny?
Usually it’s my kids, they love getting out and exploring the tracks and beaches on offer around South East Queensland.
What’s your best Jimny driving tip for off road (or anywhere)?
The right tyre pressure will get you anywhere! Let some air out when you hit the tracks or beach, not only will it give you more traction and degrade the tracks less, but it will be a more comfortable ride too!
Got any Jimny life hacks to share?
A cheap air hose and the right garden hose adapter from bunnings will let you get sand and dirt out of all the nooks and crannies when you’re cleaning underneath. It’s a very cheap (<$15) and very effective solution! Garden sprinklers work too!
Favourite Jimny colour?
Suzuki have nailed it with the 5-door Sizzling Red with black roof!
Favourite Jimny accessory?
Floor mats and seat covers! Got to keep the rig clean!
What mods have you done to your Jimny (if any)?
2’ Lift, 235/75/15 Tyres on wider steel rims, UHF, Rock Sliders, Rock Lights, and a heap of underbody protection – the best place to start for a 4WD’r is with the radius arm cups.
What mods do you plan to do to your Jimny (if any)?
Where does it end… (if my wife asks, I’m already “done”).
Where do you see you and your Jimny in 5 years?
Sipping cocktails together, on a beach on K’Gari (Fraser Island).
If you could make your own Jimny bumper sticker, what would it say?
“My car is slow”
Most drool-worthy Jimny rig you’ve ever seen?
There are too many to list, you only need to take a glimpse on Instagram to see some of the amazing rigs we have here in the QLD crew!
@the_little_rig, @explorejimny, @herjimny, @dietjimny, @jurassiczook, @bluboi.zuki, @chip_zook, @fluffy.the.jimny, @_jimnycricket, @jj0033, @shorty_the_jimny, @projectjb74 … I actually could go on all day!
If you could take your Jimny off-road anywhere in the world, where would you take it?
The USA! How cool would it be to wheel some of the epic tracks and scenery over there!
What’s a local drive on your bucket list?
5-Rocks Yeppon, the pictures look stunning online.
Words of wisdom for anyone thinking about buying a Jimny?
Don’t expect it to perform like a race car, just enjoy the ride and drive with the confidence that your little beast will take you anywhere.
